    To improve the level of musical knowledge and performance.


    Rehearsal Vocabulary

                Tone:               Quality of sound and sustaining of pitch

                Articulation:     Note style, duration, and phrasing

                Tempo:            Pulse interval

                Dynamics:       Volume and balance

            Elements of Music

                Tone:               Sound

                Harmony:        Different pitches sounding at the same time

                Duration:         Beat, Meter, Rhythm, Articulation


    Individual Preparedness

                    Personal practice: Learn individual parts and to fix individual part errors so they are not repeated in

                    rehearsals.


    Rehearsal

    Process: Continual diagnosing, prescribing, and motivating.

    Requirements: Identify problems, mark problems, fix section and large group problems, inspire members to improve. (Open attachment "ORCH rules procedures.doc" below for detailed rehearsal procedures and expectations.)


    Rehearsal Focus

    To refine ensemble phrasing, dynamics, articulation, balance, blend, and tuning.

    To establish section bowings, fingerings, and techniques.

    NOT to fix individual errors such as wrong notes and rhythms; these should be mastered in individual practice.
